LINE Lawsuit Update: Settlement Proposal
A short update on my lawsuit against LINE. LINE sent their settlement proposal, and my lawyer passed it on to me with some changes they suggested.
Under the proposal, LINE said they would lift the suspension on my account, but that I would also need to tighten how I manage my login credentials (i.e. change to a strong password, or disable password login, etc.). Obviously this is something I was already doing, but I changed my password (randomly generated and stored securely in my password manager) just in case to show my good will.
My lawyer added a procedure for the case where LINE detects the same kind of connection again: before suspending the account, they would provide me notice of it and give me two weeks to show that it wasn’t me who did such connection.
The proposal also has a confidentiality clause. I would not be allowed to tell anyone what LINE argued about the suspension, what the settlement says, or even that the case was settled. I asked my lawyer to remove the whole clause. Court proceedings should be public, and LINE has become social infrastructure. People’s use of it shouldn’t be restricted without being told why. I’ve been writing about this case here from the start, and I intend to report how it ends.
The next hearing is on November 13, 2026.
