LINE Lawsuit Update: A Vague Disclosure
A short update on my lawsuit against LINE. LINE submitted their second brief on May 8, 2026, in which they disclosed a reason for the suspension.
According to the brief, LINE detected an “abnormal connection” from my account. They argue that such connections could potentially be used to attack the service or abuse it (e.g. mass friend additions, mass messaging).
Their justification for the vagueness is that disclosing more would let bad actors learn their detection logic and avoid it.
For the record, I have only ever used official LINE clients (the Android app, LINE Web, and the Windows app) on my own devices. I have never written a script against LINE’s API or used a third-party or modified client. I don’t know what LINE detected, but it wasn’t me trying to do anything unusual.
In any case, the next hearing is on May 12, 2026, as planned.
